Nowadays a solid axle is more common on the rear of a modern car than the front (Less the Diff.) It is mainly consigned to the larger Trucks and Four Wheel Drive Pick-ups though even they are beginning to change. In the rear the Differential and axle are made as one. The main problem is the moving up and down of one wheel affects the other. Also the overall Unsprung weight is high.
