These springs are used on the rear of the TR3/4 and some 4A before changing to Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) They are refered to as Leaf Springs because of the way they are constructed. The spring is made up of a number of strips (Leafs) all bound together. They are usually only held together in the center where the axle mounts. This allows the Leafs of the spring to flex independently which allows the movement of the Axle up and down. While still able to transfer the drive from the Axle to the Frame. The rear point of the the spring is mounted on a shackle (which is a mounting with two pivot points) This is beacause the length of the Spring changes as it flexes.
