Duo-Servo Brake

Graphic of an Duo Brake Assembly showing Shoes and Cylinder

The Duo-servo brake design is different to the European type Non-Duo-servo brake. The shoes are held by springs against the Anchor pin and the Wheel cylinder, (which does not move) this is usually at the top of the backing plate. The lower ends of the brakes shoes are separated by the adjuster as force is applied to the shoes from the wheel cylinder. The leading shoe (right side) has the braking force increased by the rotation of the brake drum against the leading shoe which in turn pushes via the adjuster the trailing shoe against the anchor pin giving a servo effect.
